BioIQ for the Intel Ultimate Coder, Ultrabook Challenge

Challenger_BadgeWe are honored, excited and proud to be a part of Intel Ultimate Coder: Ultrabook Challenge.  You can read all about it on Intel’s Ultimate Coder site here.

When we first got news that we had been selected for the challenge, we had just launched BioIQ on Google Play,  and were very excited to add another platform (Intel AppUp) that users could find it on. BioIQ is now also available at the iTunes app store  here.

Let me first set some context to who we are and what we do – We are Clef Software, an indie app/web development house based out of San Jose and Bangalore.  Our current focus is to build out a family of educational apps at the high school level.  We currently have a couple of apps live – ChemIQ on iOS and BioIQ on Android.

Few months back, a teacher who experienced ChemIQ, asked us, Do you have a website for my students who do not have phones? ”.  This question has come up from our user community a few other times and we have been thinking about the best way to achieve a rich app like user experience on more device classes (beyond iOS and Android).

The new Ultrabooks with touch capabilities and many new features provides a very promising device class for an edu focused game.  The organizers at Intel have lent us a device for development and testing.

You can read up more about the device specs here. We expect many more devices like this, in the Ultrabook family, in the future.

We will play with it and talk about our experience with the device in a future post.  In this post, we will talk about what we plan to do in the next 6 weeks of the Ultimate Coder Challenge.

BioIQ is a picture puzzle game.  It presents pictures of biology related subjects (such as plant cell, human heart and dissection of frog) and requires the player to label parts of the picture from a choice of labels.

Here is a short video for you to get a sense for the game play :

The first puzzle is free, followed by two packages of in-app purchases.  Download it to your Android device here  and your iOS device here.  Please kick the tires, we hope you like it.  Do pass your feedback to us and forward it to any teacher/student that you may know.

This will be what we will aim to achieve in the next 6 weeks - A BioIQ app for the Ultrabook !

Over the next 6 weeks we will be blogging about our journey in releasing an Ultrabook version of BioIQ.  Let us know if you would like us to talk about anything specific.  If you are a teacher, student, administrator, parent or anyone interested or involved in the edu-tech space, we would love to hear from you.  Please drop us a note.

And don’t forget to join us here, every week for our weekly update.
